Most authors lose their audience when creating sequels; from my experience I get bored with the characters and the plot.

However, I would never suggest that you just read the part two of a novel because similar to a reality TV, the author will provide a synopsis of the previous read. Although this is true you gain more of the plot when reading both novels.

Therefore, I have a trick for reading sequels and that is "Give Yourself a Break".

I discovered that I enjoyed reading the second novel after reading a completely different novel. Reading enhances the imagination and if you forget what happened in the story your imagination reappears when you read the second novel while giving yourself a break.

In saying this I would like to introduce you to another really good sequel that I am now reading the part 2 novel of.

Throw Back: Scroll downward for the most recent Part 2 Review.

I have another great sequel novel. One is a Throw back and the other is a new read for me at least.

THE BUM MAGNET
          BY
    K.L. BRADY

                                                                       REVIEW:

Part 2

YES! Ladies this book is it! I could totally relate to the first novel and I laughed, cried and enjoyed the first "Bum Magnet novel".
The first novel will take you on a journey that you may I know I was be all to familiar with experiencing in dating men.

You will experience the trials and tribulations of the protagonist in this novel. You will laugh uncontrollably while reading this novel.

As always this was a novel that I was able to get my sister to read and she is NOT an habitual reader, and might I add she loved the book.

PART 2 REVIEW in PROGRESS:

I have began part 2 of The Bum Magnet and I must say that the main character has not lost her ability the keep me intrigued and in laughter. I can not wait to see what will happen in the ending. Finally, I have completed this novel. Although the characters kept me engaged, I found the sequel to lack in action similar to the first novel.

However, I would still recommend the sequel as a good read for the winter months; where many residents of the Midwest will have extended time to complete the novel without sacrificing leisure activities.

My First Introduction to JaQuavis Coleman

REVIEW UPDATE: On Til the Well Runs Dry!

In reference to the great comedian Kevin Hart "Nooo don't leave me hanging like this"!

No seriously someone that has read this novel please tell me that this book has a part 2 right.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this novel. I have not had a page turner like this since I "Silver Sparrow". This novel is a must read!

 New Book: New Author

The White House
             by
Jaquavis Coleman

Review:
I came across this novel while visiting Books a Million located in downtown Chicago. The sales associate suggested this book to me while conversing on the topic of finding "page turning" novels from African American fictions author's.

After viewing the cover illustration, I thought to myself "everyone is trying to be like the author of Scandal, and or this book if full of nothing but steet fluff".

Then I thought " Well this novel can not be that bad of a read if a larger consensus of readers are recommending it" "Why not I'll give it a try.

According to the sales associate "most people enjoyed the novel but would have enjoyed the novel more; if the novel had more length".

If you have time constraints but would enjoy reading short novel during your transit or work break times, then I think this is a book to consider.

However, I know that length does not make a great novel; but an author how is skilled in writing techniques can make a masterpiece in 1 or 2 pages. I look forward to reviewing this novel.

REVIEW UPDATE:

Normally, I do not find interest in the urban fiction novels that involve illegal activity or the plot and structure of the "street life". However, I have to say that I enjoyed reading this novel.

While reading this book, I was able to envision the characters and the scenes with haste. Reading this novel was similar to watching a movie you just wanted to know more of the ending.

Although, I found the book as an interesting read; I could not help but to also find the novel predictable. I found myself bored and wanting to finish quickly but the ending was great.

Even though I could predict the ending results, I was shocked to find out that I was completely wrong; not about what happened in the ending but about how it happened.

Overall, this was a great short read and I would recommend this book to people who do not engaged in reading or reading urban fiction as a hobby.

Throw back Novel

 Kindred
     by
Octavia Butler

Review: This was an awesome book that was recommended to me by an senior lady that I knew. We share the same interest in television shows like Dowton Abbey.

The novel engaged me with twist and turns in plot structure, and the author's skills in description was impeccable!

However don't take my word for it find out for yourself and enjoy!

Relax and enjoy your reading everyone!

A Change of Plans

Greetings Urban fiction Readers!

Due to my hectic life style, I decided to change how I present books to you that I have read. As of today, the new tittles for new and old literature are as follows:

  • Currently Reading and
  • Throw-Back Readings
I understand the difficulty in setting reading time management due to real life necessities, and I feel that reading fiction literature should act as a stress reliever from everyday life. Therefore, I am eliminating the reading challenge, but I will continue to introduce you to new African American Fiction Authors.

Currently Reading

Til the Well Runs Dry

By
Lauren Francis-Sharma

Review:

Ok! I must admit that I first set eyes on this novel while on my lunch break and frustrated with my workday. I needed to get way, you know a quick stress reliever; my mind drifted to visit a near by book store.

After browsing the small African American wall of fiction, I glanced at this book and thought to myself  "this does not look my type of reading" and to add the novel was a little pricey. However, something kept nudging me to read this novel and I said "ok if I find it on Amazon for a cheaper price then I will consider buying it to read later but for right now I am looking for a page turning read".

I began reading the reviews on Amazon some good and some so so, but I clicked "look inside" and low and behold I was hooked after reading the first chapter! I am not near completion of this novel but I instantly started imagining the characters and role playing the accents in my head.
I think that this book is a good summer read.

This novel is going to take me a while to complete so stay tuned for more new and exciting African American fiction literature reviews!

APRIL'S BOOK OF THE MONTH

Greetings Urban Ficion Readers

I apologize for the delay in posting the book of the month for April; let me state that the last novel "Death Deceit & some smooth jazz" kept me intrigued but was a challenge for me to complete.

However this month's book of the month is by Sunny Giovanni.
Yes! Another one of Sunny's novels that I really think is going to be a good read for a new spring season transition.

REVIEW IN PROGRES

Wow! What a slow read for me, I kept getting excited and then getting bored.

I finally finished and the ending to me was not all what I expected. This was personally not my choice of plot and dialogue but I progressed through it and completed the novel.

However I recommend this read if you enjoy fairy tale happy endings.

THROW BACK NOVEL

 Ms. Jae Henderson

Is by a novelist that I could not get enough of Ms. Jae Henderson. This was the first series novel that I read and I can say was an excellent read from series 1-3 but find out for yourself and enjoy the twist turns and joy of the Someday novel series.

A Good Non-Fiction Read

The Purpose Driven Life  by Rick Warren

If you practice the Christian belief, "The Purpose Driven Life" is a good book to read if you struggle with accomplishing life aspirations and societal success. I wanted to share this read with you as a potential read for any occasion.

This is not April's book of the month but it is a great read if you are looking to find your purpose in life.

I stumbled on this book by accident through an amazon referral and I must say that the beginning chapters have enlightened my view of living a fulfilling life.

MORE GREAT AUTHORS

MORE GREAT AUTHORS

OK! I would like to say how proud I am of myself for setting strict reading time management and completing novels outside of Urban Fiction Authors.

I wanted to share great novels that I have read by Christian and Mystery African American Fiction novelist.

AS ALWAYS I AM WILLING TO REVIEW NEW AFRICAN AMERICAN FICTION AUTHORS.

CHRISTIAN FICTION

I MET HIM IN THE LADIES ROOM PART 1&2 BY Michelle Stimpson

I really enjoyed this author. I expected for this read to turn out similar to the traditional christian romance fiction novel; however this novel will have you laughing, uncontrollably and I must say that I connected with the protagonist so much that I thought she was living my life in this present time. Take A Chance On This Sequel and please read part1 first to gain the entire experience of the sequel it will not bore you I promise.

A LOVA LIKE NO OTHA

An awesome summer read! This christian novelist is gifted with the ability to create clean romantic fiction with a plot structure that will blow your mind. I could not put this book down, my sister suggested this author to me and it took me a while to get the book because borders at the time before electronic readers did not have the book in stock. However I read this book last summer and gave my sister a call to let her know that I now understood why she purchased an additional copy to send to her close friend.

MYSTERY FICTION

THE VIEW FROM HERE

RACHEL HOWZELL

I was not an avid mystery fiction reader until I read "The View from Here". I read this book near the month of October and the descriptive settings and actions placed my mind in a Syfi movie setting. I must say that this was the first novel that intrigued my interest in African American Mystery Fiction.

DEATH DECEIT & SOME SMOOTH JAZZ

CLAUDIA MAIR BURNEY

All you forensic science detective mystery solvers, you will most likely enjoy this novel.

As for myself, this novel start off extremely slow paced but picks up toward the middle section. I can not wait to find out the results of the crime scene and this my dear friends is holding my interest in this novel (along with the fact that I purchased this novel and I am determined to complete it).

WELL THAT IS ALL FOR NOW JOIN ME THE END OF MARCH FOR APRIL'S BOOK OF THE MONTH.

A COOL IPAD MINI CASE

A VALENTINE DAY BONUS READ FOR ADULTS, YOUNG ADULTS AND TEENS

 by Sunny Giovanni
CLICK ON THE BOOK VIA THE AMAZON SLIDESHOW TO PURCHASE

I am just beginning to read this book for leisure, I can say that starting out this book is a nice read for teens ages 15+, the language is a little gravelly but teens can relate to the story.

However, as an adult woman reading this story it think that it forces women to look at the pressures that we add to the men we love without realizing it until the pressures that men are dealing with tragically display itself and we either lose our mate to another person or the legal system.

I browsed upon this book through an African American Fiction reading community. I have not began to read this novel yet but it seemed like a good read for Valentines Day!

BOOK REVIEW

Oh my! I must say that this author had me laughing uncontrollably; she is definitely speaking the truth about men! Some statements I agreed with and some statements did not agree with but I gained enjoyment from reading this book.

When I started to read this book I thought  "Here is another male bashing book", but I gained more information on the mistakes that we as women make in dating, and in marriages. Also, upon purchasing this book, I expected for the book  to have a novel format but it was formatted similar to a self help book; however the writing of this book have the story structure of a novel.

While reading this book, I was able to reflect on my disastrous dating experiences with men and realize mistakes that I have made in dating.

After reading this book I felt comfort in knowing that I am not the only one experiencing the unique personalities of men.
