A GREAT NOVEL For The MONTH OF DECEMBER

GRACE

                                                             By Natashia Deon

Review:

OK I must confess that I was not the type of reader who enjoyed listening to audio books. I thought that the audio experience took away from the joy of reading but acceptance to change will always open doors of opportunity. Although, I still enjoy reading the old fashioned way, I found that I have been able to enjoy and review novels during hectic times.

Well enough about me, I tried reading this novel before and did not like the story-line so I returned the novel back to audible but something keep telling me to keep listening. Frustrated, I felt that I could not keep up with the characters or the dialogue so I moved onto another book Grace by Elizabeth Nunez. Similar to this novel I did not enjoy the narrator and returned this book as well.

Transitioning back to Ms. Deon's book. I must say I still had trouble keeping up with the characters but as you read or listen further I enjoyed the talent of the author's mystery. I enjoyed the consistently changing dialogue but was a little disappointed in the ending; as I felt the author could have provided more on the main characters transition.

Although this was a tough novel to begin, I am delighted that I stuck with it and finished. If you like a syfy novel this is a good choice as you will enjoy the many twist and turns of this book.

Drama and Forgiveness November Books of the month

The Perfect Mistress

By Reshonda Tate Billingsley The Perfect Mistress Audiobook

and

WHAT'S DONE IN THE DARK What's Done in the Dark Audiobook

Review:

Greetings literary Readers,

I must admit that I enjoy using audible as my listening soap opera for both work and my commute home. I have enjoyed both of the novels listed above; as both were real page turners or listening turners; I guess since it is audio listening LOL!

As we all know sometimes it is difficult to listen to or read novels back to back written by the same author; we find ourselves bored with the writing style of the author. I experience with reading Eric Jerome Dickey, Mary B. Morrison, and Carl Webber novels. My trick for this is to space the novels apart using a month or two month time period. However, for they remaining year of 2016, I must say that I enjoy every character, and the creative dialogue of both novels written by Reshonda Tate Billingsley.

At first, I was hesitant to read the "Perfect Mistress" as I am not a fan of adultery as a societal norm but this novel was so much more than it's title for me. The only down fall was the ending but despite the ending the novel introduced great life lessons.

As a result of completing the first novel in two days, I had been planning to read "What's Done In The Dark" via my kindle subscription but due to a busy work schedule, it was difficult for me to read this novel, so I finally decided to purchase this novel on audible. Like the first novel, this novel was more of a page turner finishing it in two days. I had to pace myself as I was looking forward to working and finding out what happened next at work.

The only down fall is the book was predictable, in my opinion but it still was a great listening soap opera. What made this an awesome fiction choice was narrator Karen Pittman's voice for Paula and her mother. Her voice alone made me enjoy this novel and I hope that you will find entertainment in this novel as well.

Happy reading everyone!

A DOUBLE DOSE OF MYSTERY FICTION

THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR

By Shari Lapena

THE WOMAN IN CABIN 10

By Ruth Ware

Hello Readers,

Once again we have another great Audible or ebook novel. The photo image of this novel intrigued me as I wondered why light illuminated in the background and the title provided me with the mystery fiction that I was in quest for to introduce to my blog readers.

I must say I am not disappointed as this book was a page turner for me. At first I thought that I could predict this book but I later found out that what I predicted was completely incorrect. Which transitioned me to another good mystery read for the month of October.

THE WOMAN IN CABIN 10

I am currently listening to this novel on Audible after completing The Couple Next Door and for some reason I love the scenery that my brain has imagined via the accent of the characters in this book. However, I am on chapter 9 and the mystery fiction is still limited; I feel that I am not as interested in the dialogue.

As many of you know, I hate to not complete a novel and I will finish listening to find out the answers to the mystery that was introduced in the previous chapters. I would recommend reading this novel opposed to listening; I think that you can focus on the dialogue better.

If you have any questions don't be shy ask me. Happy Reading everyone!

READING CHOICE OR SEPTEMBER

BLACK WATER RISING

       BY ATTICA LOCKE

Greetings everyone,

I chose to read a nice mystery novel as I wanted to gain suspense from this month's fiction literature. I started reading the chosen novel for free using my ebook library card. Unfortunately, I did not finish the novel in time and I had to wait to renew.

Ever get that feeling that you failed when you do not complete a novel? Driven by this failure, I purchased the novel with my Audible credit. As always, I like to give an honest literature review; in stating this please listen to the audio book version as reading the printed novel may not hold your interest.

Reading and listening to this novel you will experience the following: the first few chapters were intriguing, the middle chapters began to acquire a slow pace; however the last chapters made a speedy recovery. Over all, "Black Water Rising" is a great time passing novel to listen to via audio book format.

A good August Read

The Black Birds

By
Eric Jerome Dickey

Review:

Hello everyone,

If you consistently read my blog reviews, you know that there is always a story behind my choice for the book of the month. As you know I subscribe to audio-books, but for my bloggers who like myself feel the price of an audio book membership is not budget friendly, I will like to inform you that I was able to get this novel via my local library. My reasoning for keeping my audio books membership is because my local library does not have a large selection of  fiction literature available to me; which leads me to my story. I was once again browsing the library selection and I passed this book thinking to myself Eric's books are good but they start off slow and it takes too long to connect with the characters. At the time, 4 people were ahead of me and I said ok I will just place the book on hold and if I am able to read the novel before the summer then it will be a good read. Low and behold, I received a message last week that I was ready for my download. I was nervous although no need to be as I did not pay for the novel but I was nervous that people did not like the book as to why I received it so quickly.  People! Eric Jerome Dickey has done it! I must say that this is one of the best books that I have read from Mr. Dickey. I must warn you, this book is extremely vulgar and it is definitely for  grown women; the characters are spicy, fierce, and engaging.  I listened to the audio version of this book at work and was seriously engaged; honestly I could not stop listening and the listening did not just stop at work once I was firmly seated in my car I continued listening on my drive home. It was like watching TV while driving and I must say it kept me calm enough to not yell at drivers who consistently cut me off and literally drive 20 miles per hour once in front of me. Overall, I have no complaints, this novel is a good read even if you choose not to listen to the audio version. The Black Birds is definitely one of my best summer novels.

The Book I Read for July

My Sister's Grave

By Robert Dugoni

Review:

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! Once again, I was browsing Audio Books in search of a great book to read and I found this novel. Although the listening experience in my opinion was long and the story line was predictable, I enjoyed listening to this book while completing my task at work. Similar to a movie the story line kept me hooked and before I knew it I was finished with the novel.

A Good Read for the Month of June

THE SUPREMES AT EARL'S ALL YOU CAN EAT

BY EDWARD KELSEY MOORE

Review:

While browsing the audio book selection online on my local library's website, I downloaded this book and returned it the next day because I did not understand the beginning chapters and could not keep up with the character dialogue. After reading "The Girl on The Train", I could not find another book that I thought would hold my interest. In my search, I kept receiving a feeling to re-visit this novel; so I thought ok I will give it another try and I am glad that I did. This novel was another audio book winner for me; as you will be surprised of how once you understand the characters you become attached to the story line. This novel flowed with an storyline that I could cherish and take with me in my everyday life.

A Good Read for the Month of May

The Girl on the Train

by Paula Hawkins

REVIEW:

I must say that I did not think that I would enjoy this book as much as I did. The chapters started out long and slow but I was not expecting the ending. As always, I enjoyed "The Girl on the Train" audio book while working and this novel kept me on my toes with the suspenseful twist and turns.

Another Great Audible Book

Introducing:

WHAT SHE LEFT BEHIND  By

ELLEN MARIE WISEMAN

Review:

I must say that I enjoy listening to audio books on Audible to pass time at work. While browsing Audible, I passed over this book numerous times, I thought that I would get bored with the book from reading the synopsis. However, I must say I am now on chapter 20 and their are a total of 27 chapters. I began listening to the novel on Thursday. I must say that this is one of the best mystery fiction books that I have read since reading Kindred by Octavia Butler. I hope that you enjoy this book as well. Happy Reading!

A Good Fiction Book for Facing Life Adversities

Up Pops The Devil

             By
        Lacha M. Scott

Review:

This book was a good read. I must admit, my busy schedule limited me from reading the book. I received a free Audible credit and decided to purchase the book on Audible app. The dialogue was ok I found the narrated voice were a bit hilarious; as I thought that I would be able to predict the ending. However, to my surprise, the ending completely shocked and saddened me. I would definitely recommend listening to this book on audible if you have a job that permits for you too. You will definitely pass time!

I would like to know your opinion. Please comment and tell me your thoughts.

February's Fiction Literature

THE CUTTING SEASON

by Attica Locke

REVIEW:

If you are a frequent reader of my blog, you have read that I have been on a quest for African American mystery fiction authors. I am not a fan of audio books due to me being an physical reader, however, a slow work week and repetitive songs on google radio caused me great boredom; not understanding why I did not try this prior to listening to music, I browsed the audible app for reading material. I thought I would give audible a try especially since there was advertisement for a free 30 day trial. However, I must tell you that I am not a fan of the $14.95 per month price due to me already subscribing to Kindle Unlimited, I signed up for the 30 trial and canceled. During the cancellation process, Audible offered me 3 months at the price of $7.95 and I thought now were talking. While browsing the reading selections on Audible I came across the title "The Cutting Season" and I thought this title seems like a good mystery fiction read.

I must say that I was not disappointed in listening to the audio book version but if  I was physically reading this book I may not have finished the novel. The cutting season for me was more of a suspenseful read than a mystery novel to me. The novel engaging to listen to but did not strike me as a page turner if reading the book physically. However, I think The Cutting Season was a good first audio book to listen too as it assisted with passing the time at work for me.

Inclosing, I was afraid that listening to audio books would take me away from enjoying physically reading novels but to my surprise, I found myself wanting to read the words instead of  hearing the story enacted. I must say that for people whom have busy lives and want to engaging in reading audio books are great as I found myself often leaving the office and listening to the remaining chapters during my transit time home which was awesome. I will continue to subscribe to audible as I enjoy listening during work to the narrated fiction novels, I just hope that by my 3 month subscription that audible will have altered their subscription pricing.

Happy Valentine's Weekend!

Now Reading MAUDE

by Donna-Foley-Mabry

Review:

After searching for months for a book that was different than the relationship plots, I began to browse Amazon for interesting books. Needless to say nothing struck my interest, I am uncertain if there a name for this but similar to writers block, I am going to call my inability to find interest in a new novel "Reader's Block".

I passed this book a few times thinking to myself after reading the synopsis that this "isn't it either". Finally unable to find a page turner, I re-read the synopsis and I said ok lets just read this one and from chapter 1 I was hooked.

This was a great book about a young women's trials and tribulations in life as a young girl, pre-teen, and an adult women. This novel turned out to be just what I needed the only downfall was that there were 80 chapters; which could have been shorter in my opinion. However wanting to know what happened I continued reading, and I am glad that I took a chance on this novel.
